The Vitra and Eames collaboration started in the 1950s and, soon after, Vitra began producing the Lounge Chair, a generously proportioned chair that combined ultimate comfort with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship. Still made today using production methods that are virtually unchanged, the chair has become one of the most desired items of mid-century furniture.

Invest in a design classic: the Eames Shell Chair was first presented in 1948 at a competition organized by New York's Museum of Modern Art. Eventually marketed as the first mass-produced plastic chair, it established as entirely new typology in seating. Today Vitra manufactures the comfortable seat shells of the Eames Plastic Chairs in polypropylene, while those of the Eames Fiberglass Chairs are produced in glass-fibre reinforced polyester resin, creating a sense of structural and visual simplicity. 

There is also a wide choice of bases and shell colours, along with upholstery options for some models. This allows customers to specify countless different combinations and to use the chairs in the widest range of settings – from dining rooms, living rooms and home offices to terraces and gardens.

The Vitra House Bird is a symbol now synonymous with timeless design. Charles & Ray Eames brought the House Bird to life around 1910 when they produced one for their own home. After appearing in a poster for Eames DKR Chairs it shot to success.
