The University of Cambridge, Lucy Cavendish College Café-bar
The café-bar space at Cambridge University’s Lucy Cavendish College is part of an exciting eco-friendly development of new accommodation that aims to eliminate the use of fossil fuels.
With sustainability at the forefront, the project, designed by RHP Architects to the Passivhaus standard and will feature high natural light, ventilation and meets the RIBA, LETI and UKGBC carbon-zero frameworks.
EWD have balanced the surrounding gardens with the conservation area context, selecting sustainable materials with warm tones including oak, porcelain (stone effect) floor tiles and zero carbon carpet tiles. Blues and greens promote a sense of calm to aid concentration whilst a splash of orange to helps to animate the space.
We aim to demonstrate that an inclusive space will provide equal access and opportunities regardless of variables such as physical ability, mental health, age, gender, and race.
