Magdalene College Library

We have been appointed to work with Magdalene College and Niall McLaughlin Architect on the design, specification and supply of furniture to their iconic New College Library. The interior spaces are made from a cross-laminated timber structure with hardwood shelves and tables. The intention is for all of the key features to be perceived as an interwoven set of elements for which the loose furniture is an integral part.

Eve Waldron worked closely with the college bursar and their building team as well as the project architect to select furniture which would sit in harmony with this wonderful scheme. The brief was to select pieces which are classic in appearance, ergonomic and hardwearing.

The main timber library chairs are Hans Wegner designed oak chairs with leather seats, made by PP Mobler in Denmark. The lightweight, understated Vitra Physix chair designed in 1912 by Alberto Meda is also used on the project, offering a height adjustable option. The reading room has Hans Wegner easy chairs in green wool with a ladder back design. In the ground floor social flexible space- reconfigurable modular seating has been used.  Beautiful, classic, well chosen furniture maintains its value and is long lasting and sustainable - thus ensuring its own longevity.
